Changes to Garbage Collection

New Procedure for Bulk Garbage Collection and Clear Bags Required

Changes are coming to the way our garbage will be collected in the new year. Starting in 2024, the Eastern Regional Service Board has updated their policies surrounding weekly garbage collection and bulk garbage pickup. For weekly collection, residents will now be required to use clear garbage bags for their household waste. Per the ERSB:
"Each household may use one privacy bag every week. As always, there is no limit on the
number of blue bags customers can place curbside on any scheduled recycling day.
Beginning on January 1, 2024, customers will place their discards curbside in this matter:
• Clear bags (standard-sized, colourless, see-through) for all weekly household garbage.
• Opaque (non-see-through) garbage bag of any colour for weekly privacy garbage.
• Blue bags (unlimited number) for recycling materials only on scheduled recycling days."

Bulk garbage collection will also see substantial changes in 2024. In response to feedback from residents and communities, bulk garbage will be moving to an appointment only model. Each household will be eligible for one bulk collection a year during the months of April through September.
